Marathon #2 complete!

Here we are at the finish of marathon #2, Myrtle Beach.

This marathon ended up being an adventure, that's for sure. The race went well, we paced ourselves and didn't kill ourselves, trying to ease through the first few marathons so as not to tax our bodies more than we have to.

However, it was before the marathon that didn't go as planned for me. The race was on Saturday, I had a flight booked for friday afternoon. But I couldn't get out of work so had to change the flight. Not to say I am cheap, but although I needed to change the flight I didn't want to transfer onto the later flight because it was going to cost $350 at first, then went up to over $600!!! They said I could wait until the day of the flight and I could transfer for $50. So I decided to gamble. I should know, gamblers always lose. I lost. Flight was booked.

So when I called Friday there were no flights. I drove to the airport, and instead of hopping on a plane, I rented a car and started driving at 3:35pm. I estimated around 10 hours, but didn't know I would get stuck in a 10 mile backup (yes 1o miles) right in Philly and then get to DC at prime time rush hour traffic. It was brutal. Worst drive of my life, I was tired and cranky for first half of it. But pounded some coffee with dinner, and then a Monster energy drink, which was awful, but must have done the trick. Because I got a second wind and felt wide awake for the rest of the trip. Arrived in Myrtle beach at 2:30am.

So went to sleep by 3am, woke up before my alarm at 4:56am. Ran 26.2 miles. Was back on a flight to Philadelphia at 3:24pm Saturday. Just a normal 24 hours.

One week to Marathon #2

Less than one week until marathon #2, not sure how it will go. The legs feel pretty good. Last Thursday, after school I ran 14 miles, which is my longest run in between Miami and this Saturday's race. I didn't bring a watch, but I felt like I ran pretty fast. Then ran 7 this weekend on Saturday. I will run a short run probably tomorrow, and then take off until Saturday.

I am stressing out a bit about Myrtle, but it has nothing to do with the running part. I have to go to school on Friday, and then take a later flight than what I expected. Meaning I don't get into Myrtle Beach until after 10pm. And the race is at 6:30am the next morning. Then we fly out at 3:30 saturday afternoon! What a quick weekend it will be.

Anyone checking this out who donated to my fundraising website for our school's scholarship fund, I am grateful. Anyone interested in checking out the fundraising page here it is:

February training

Marathon #1 is behind us, now it's time to train for #2, Myrtle Beach. Post marathon I took off running until Thursday, then ran 4 miles Thursday and Friday morning before work. Felt a bit sore still on Thursday, but felt great on Friday.

Saturday I ran 7 and then ran 11 on Sunday, felt pretty great throughout both runs. Not sure how to proceed now though. The race is in less than two weeks. I think I may try to run long one time on a weekday, like Thursday. Then try a mini taper until the race.

I need to do some research.

About the Miami marthon: loved it and had a great weekend doing it. How can you not in Miami? One of the best cities I have ever been to, I love south beach. And if you ever go, you have to go to the best burger place on the planet, Cheeseburger Baby. Great burgers, great atmosphere, right in south beach, owner is coolest person we've ever hung with, and it stays open ALL NIGHT! The website is below, the place is just the best, STONE COLD FACT (to borrow a line from Tim Bambrick)!
